SEVA EKTA SIMRAN
On this day, youths from all over the West
Midlands joined forces to enjoy uplifting Kirtan, mind blowing
Simran and where the opportunity arose, fulfilling seva. The theme of this event
was Ekta, joining forces infront of Guru and singing his praises to our heart’s
content. The event started at approximatly 5
pm when we set out the vaje and tablay facing Guru Maharaaj with the
rest of the sangat behind giving everyone the chance to do kirtan. as the
minutes went by, the sangat started sitting closer together and joined in by
playing shainay and if not possible they would just sing as loud as possible!
It started off with our local youths from various universities and
colleges singing together and singing the Guru’s bani. We had kirtanis such as
Harminder Kaur (Birmingham Uni), Kulwant Singh (Wolves Uni),
Butta Singh Jee , Harjinder Singh Jee, Sukhvinder Singh Jee, some of our younger
pajees from the gatka akhara and many more! It was amazing to see so much talent
being put together. It was definitely a heart touching sight when you saw the
rest of the sangat joining in and singing as loud as possible. As soon as you
walked into the Guru’s Darbar you could feel the vibration of Vaheguru from his
sangat waiting for you with open arms telling you to come and join in. To
help, we also had the English and Gurmukhi translations of the Kirtan sung, up
on a projector so that nobody had an excuse of not joining in.
Later on, we had a session by a Dhadi Jatha (in English) very young and
talented girls from
UK who sang
about the power of Guru and his bani. It was a very inspiring session by our
penjees. They even attempted to translate in English which was amazing! We later
then carried on with Kirtan of a wide range. We had a raag Kalyaan shabad sung
by Rishipal Singh Jee from UCE to which you just wanted to sit there and sing
your lungs out to Gurujee. Then we had various other kirtanis ending with Giani
Sukha Singh from Dudley who ended off with some soothing Naam Simran to which everyone enjoyed and wanted
more of! Sadly the day had to come to an end and the Ardaas and Sukhasan was
done. All of us stayed until Guru Maharaaj was tucked into bed and then went to
greet all our brothers and sisters with fatehs.
After the programme you could certainly see from the smiles and glows on
people’s faces that this had been a very fulfilling day. It was most definitely
worth the while and hopefully more of our brothers and sisters around the
country would like to join us next time.
I must say that this is the first event where everyone has joined in
together and carried out seva together and definitely has to be done again,
Guru’s kirpa. Many thanks to everyone who attended, hopefully we will see you
all again at the next similar event on the 10th May 2003 at West Bromwich Gurdwara,
Guru Har Rai Sahib Jee.
